Eurostar coach numbers at St Pancras: which travelator to take

Two ramps per platform, one for the front coaches and one for the rest. Choose the right one and you skip a long walk on the platform.

Updated 3 October 2026

Short answer: each Eurostar platform at St Pancras is reached by two travelators from the departure lounge. One is signed for coaches 1 to 5, the other for the rest of the train. Take the one that matches the coach number on your ticket.

Why it matters

Both travelators bring you up partway along the platform, and Eurostar trains are long. Take the wrong one and you face a walk back along the train with your bags, against the flow of everyone else who chose correctly. Pick the right one and your coach is close by.

How to read your ticket

Which end is coach 1?

Coach 1 is normally at the London end of the train, the end nearest the buffers. Eurostar's seat plans and the station's coach signs both follow that arrangement. You don't need to work it out yourself, though: the signs at the foot of each travelator are set up for it.

Not every train is the same

Eurostar runs more than one type of train, and they are not all the same length. Don't assume a fixed number of coaches, or that a particular coach will sit exactly by a ramp. The ramp-by-coach-range rule holds whatever the train.

Lifts

Each access point has lifts as well as travelators. With a pushchair, a wheelchair or a lot of luggage they are the easier way up, and staff can help if you booked assistance.
